Matilda is the story of an extraordinary little girl with extraordinary powers. The daughter of abusive parents, Matilda finds refuge in library books, which she reads quickly and in creating her own stories. Things are no better at school, where Matilda also must face a tyrannical and cruel headmistress, Miss Trunchbull, who believes in Crunchem Hall’s motto: “Bambinatum est Magitum,” or “Children are Maggots.” She finds companionship in her teacher, Miss Honey, though well-intentioned, is shy and fragile. Brave little Matilda knows she has to stand up against the adults in her world, and in doing so, discovers her own remarkable powers. Matilda’s bravery teaches Miss Honey and her classmate an important lesson -- that even though life can be hard, “nobody but me is gonna change my story” so “sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty.”
Show Dates are June 1-18 and tickets can be purchased at actgonzales.org or by calling our Box Office at 225-647-1230. |

Amanda Roberts is a renowned musician who won the 2017 National Hammer Dulcimer Championship. The Hammered Dulcimer is a percussion-stringed instrument which consists of strings stretched over a trapezoidal resonant sound board and is played by being struck with handheld hammers. It is quite the treat to hear one in person!
Amanda will be accompanied by percussionist Lady Chops (Elizabeth Vidos) who performed Off-Broadway with STOMP for 10 years. They can both be seen performing at the 2023 New Orleans Jazz Festival. Together they are bringing lively music to EBRPL originating from the countries of Ireland, Scotland and Wales in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day.

Based on the smash hit 1991 Disney animated feature and dating back to a late 18th-century classic French fairy tale, Beauty and the Beast tells the story of Belle, a beautiful and intelligent young woman who feels out of place in her provincial French village. When her father is imprisoned in a mysterious castle, Belle’s attempt to rescue him leads to her capture by the Beast, a grisly and fearsome monster, who was long ago trapped in his gruesome form by an enchantress. The only way for the Beast to become human once again is if he learns to love and be loved in return. There is a time limit, too: once a magical rose loses all of its petals, all hope will be lost, and he will stay a Beast forever. The Beast’s enchanted household--populated by such beloved characters as Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Cogsworth, and Chip--watch anxiously as Belle and the Beast grow to understand and befriend one another. Their feelings grow ever deeper as the clock ticks and petals continue to fall off the enchanted rose--will they confess their love for one another before it is too late? |

An adaptation of Mary Shelley's classic novel, in which the story of Frankenstein is interwoven with elements of Shelley's own life and the origin of the Frankenstein legend. Victor Frankenstein seeks to conquer Death, bringing life to flesh through his mastery of alchemy and galvanism, but his actions have disastrous and unforeseen consequences. The Creature leaves death in its wake in this tragic Gothic horror as the dangers of arrogance and unchecked hubris meet the rapid technological development of the early 18th century. At the same time, Mary Shelley tells this story in the famed Villa Diodati to her poet husband, Percy, and their companions, Claire Claremont, John Polidori, and the dangerous Lord Byron. |
